What gets stored in your browser when you visit this site, what each thing does, and how to change what you chose. The list below is the real one, not a generic one.

In short
Until you accept, this site sets no cookies at all. Zero. The necessary ones are not even cookies: they are two values that stay in your browser and go nowhere.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a site leaves in your browser so it can remember something from one page to the next. Some expire when you close the window; others last months or years.
Related technologies (localStorage, sessionStorage) do something similar with one important difference: cookies are sent to the server automatically on every request, while localStorage values stay in the browser until the page's own code reads them. They are treated with equal seriousness here, because the rules about storing things on your device do not depend on the technical label.
Necessary
There are exactly two, both in localStorage, both written only as a result of something you did. They are never sent to me or to anyone else and cannot be used to follow you between sites.

These cannot be switched off from the banner, because without them the site could not even remember your refusal. You can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Analytics
These load only if you accept the "Analytics" category. If you refuse, or choose nothing, none of the cookies below exists in your browser, and the scripts that would set them are not even requested from the internet.

These lists are the ones Google and Microsoft publish as of the date above. Both providers can change their own cookies without telling me; if I notice a difference, I update this page.
How consent is asked for
On your first visit a small banner appears in the corner. It does not cover the page, does not block scrolling, and does not make you choose before you can read. A site that holds its content hostage until you accept is not obtaining freely given consent.
"Accept all" and "Only necessary" are the same size and both one click away. "Customise" opens the per-category switches if you would rather choose in detail.
Nothing is pre-ticked. Silence is not agreement, and closing the banner without choosing enables nothing.
How to change your mind
At the bottom of every page there is a "Cookie settings" button. It opens the same window as on your first visit, with your current choice already reflected in the switches.
If you switch analytics off, the page reloads. A script that is already running cannot be stopped any other way, and a withdrawal that stops nothing until your next navigation would not be a withdrawal.
From your browser settings
You can block or delete cookies directly in your browser, independently of this site. Every modern browser has the option under privacy settings, and most already block third-party cookies by default.
The site works completely with cookies blocked. The only visible effect is that it stops remembering your language and asks about cookies again, because that is exactly where the answer was stored.
